Disasters & Life

On April 10, 2009 (Good Friday) tornadoes strike several places in the southeast, including my hometown of Murfreesboro, TN. The big tornado of that day was rated at EF-4. Two people died in Murfreesboro and many others were injured. Many lost everything they owned. One year later things are back to normal, but the scars left behind can still be seen. It has been amazing to watch how God has brought a community together to rebuild the damage left behind.

This year on Friday, April 30, 2010 it is predicted that we would have several days of rain over the weekend. For some the rain started early Saturday, May 1, 2010) morning. By last that afternoon Middle Tennessee had already seen 5-8 inches of rain and wide spread flooding. The following day, Sunday, May 2, 2010, the rain just kept coming and many roads were closed, schools began announcing they would be closed on Monday, and many people were driven out of their homes. It is hard to say which areas were hit bad, but Nashville certainly had received its share of flooding as many downtown businesses were forced to close and abandon downtown area of Nashville. In the midst of all the devastation throughout Middle Tennessee, people came together to help each other. Another example of how God has moved in this community this year.

It certainly appears that God intends for change to come. Nobody knows for certain what changes are to come. What I do know is this... All changes are a part of God's plan. It is not for us to believe in our own understanding, but to believe in God's purpose with all of our heart. In the end the ultimate winner is God and all that follow in His name, through His son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Amen.
